Train your dog to return when called

It is a common problem dog owners face that their dogs fail to return to them when they are called. Most puppies run to their owners when they are called but as dogs get older some will ignore their owners calling to them. Firstly, owners often give confusing, contradictory signals to their pets. Make sure that you teach your dog a command that is only used when you are calling your pet back to you and for nothing else. Using their name & saying ‘Come’ is OK as long as it is not used for anything else, but try and think of something inventive and individual that sounds different to other commands. You can also introduce a treat that you can give to your pet to give him more incentive to return. Other reason why your dog may not return when called is that the bond between you and your dog needs strengthening, so this will require more quality time spent with your pet and training. However, there are external reasons why a dog may not run back to their owner such as noise, other animals, wildlife, as all of these will make your dog distracted. This will, again, require more training with treats to make it worthwhile to your dog to return and leave, whatever the distraction may be, alone. Furthermore, any extra training to make sure that your dog returns to you when called will not only strengthen the bond between you two, but it can also save his life.
