We have a new Dog
Home Sweet Home
When introducing a new puppy into the household, it is important to provide an environment that is comforting and safe. Kitchens are a great place to keep new puppies as they often have washable floors and they are a warm environment. The puppy will more than likely feel lonely when they first move in, so remember to keep their living area cosy and warm by adding cuddly toys, a warm blanket and even a hot water bottle if you feel they need the extra warmth. If you do use a hot water bottle, make sure you cover it fully to avoid the new puppy burning themselves. These preparations should go some way to replacing the warmth and comfort received from the puppy's mother and siblings.
Before you bring home the puppy, you could even take an old piece of clothing or a blanket to the puppy so that they become aware of the scent of your home. This should make everything seem more familiar for the puppy when they do arrive.
Sleeping patterns may be uneven at first as the puppy will be nervous of the fact that they are suddenly alone; exactly how long it takes for the puppy to settle will depend on the personality of your pet. Encouraging the use of the toilet and play to tire out the puppy will be worthwhile and help for a good night's sleep.
