Scrappy dog Mason had been hiding in a garage in North Smithfield, Alabama when the storm hit on April 27.
After being tossed up in the air by the tornado he was left for dead. Incredibly Mason crawled home on two broken legs.
The tornado destroyed houses in the community and Mason was nowhere to be seen. His family had almost given up hope that Mason would be found safe but two weeks later when they returned to their home to sift through belongings they found Mason sitting on their doorstep but he was in a bad way.
Mason was rushed to the vets where they checked him over. The vet said he had two broken legs and they were distal radial unal fractures. Last week Mason had an operation to fix plates into his two front legs.
A spokesman from the shelter said he is now doing well and will go home to his family in six weeks time.
