How to get your dog microchipped for FREE in the UK
By 2016, all dog owners in England and Wales will be required by law to have their dogs microchipped, or face a fine of up to £500. The good news is that it is possible to get it done for free! The Animals Charity, based at Wood Green, Northampton, offered the free microchipping service throughout August to any pet owners in the local area. Better still, the charity also provided a free nose to tail check-up, and offer advice on how to keep your dog as healthy and safe as possible.
Being able to quickly identify your pet should it be lost or stolen is a very important part of responsible pet ownership, said the centre’s outreach manager Louise Tuck. This simple and quick procedure involves a tiny chip being inserted between your pets shoulder blades and is now recognised as the most effective and secure way of permanent identification.
Keep an eye on their website for any future events. Don’t worry if you missed this one or don’t live near Northampton because there are free microchipping services available across the UK keep reading!
Microchipping for dogs: The Facts
Microchipping normally costs between £15 and £25, and the whole procedure only takes a few seconds to complete. Each chip is embedded with a unique number that can be
checked on a national database to find the pet owner’s contact details. If your dog goes missing or has been stolen, the microchip could be the key to finding your beloved pooch again.
Of course it’s then up to you to keep your database information up to date otherwise, should your dog get lost, it will be returned to the wrong address! It’s easy to do, just call the appropriate number for your dog’s microchip (if you don’t know one, any of the services will be able to tell you the correct one!):

Microchipping is essential if your pooch decides to go for a wander on their own in order to find them. Unfortunately accidents do happen, and you may find yourself with expensive vet’s bills if your pup has an accident while they’re on their own. A great dog insurance policy that covers loss, death, finders reward and accidental treatment from vets is a must.
