Who were you rooting for at this year’s Crufts competition?
Despite the horrendous poisoning story threatening to overshadow what otherwise was a fantastic show, Crufts 2015 saw the biggest and best congregation of dogs and owners strutting their stuff for the enjoyment of viewers everywhere. From the Best of Breeds to the Best in Show, there were some pristine pups out there as were we! www.pet-insurance.co.uk were represented in style by one of our Claims Team Leaders and her dog Camlo, who won third place in the postgraduate class within his breed class.
Camlo’s a Kooikerhondje. Originally a working dog of Dutch ancestry, Kooikerhondjes were traditionally used to lure ducks and were especially popular in the 17th and 18th century. They’re gorgeous too, as Camlo’s pictures attest.
Camlo won his class and also got Reserve Best Male…
He had won plenty of Best in Shows and Best Pup in Shows in pedigree classes in fun dog shows. It was suggested by another Kooikerhondje owner that he try Open shows and a Champ show and if you place in a Champ show you qualify for Crufts! We decided to go to a show last year, where Camlo won his class and also got Reserve Best Male, and qualified for Crufts 2015.
Kooikerhondje owners… so nice and welcoming
How did the pair enjoy the show? I’ve been to Crufts many times over the years but this was my first time showing, so I was extremely nervous! We met with the other Kooikerhondje owners at the show and they made me feel at ease, they’re all so nice and welcoming. Camlo took it all in his stride even with strangers stroking him he didn’t mind and lapped up all the attention.
The two had a grand time competing and we re already looking forward to seeing how they fare in the future. Crufts is a great place to go. I always love going there it has a great atmosphere. It was awful to hear about the poisoning incident though, I feel so bad for the owner to lose a well-loved pet in that way. We re all there for one reason, and that’s the love we have for our dogs. I’d hate to think there were people that would ever want to cause harm to our beloved pets.
