Top Tips for Choosing a Pet Sitter
When going on holidays or otherwise travelling away from home you want to be confident that your pets will be well looked after. If you have a number of pets or more exotic animals it can be cheaper and otherwise more convenient to employ a pet sitter rather than book them in with a pet boarding facility. When deciding on a pet sitter, ask yourself the following questions.
Do they have references, testimonials and reviews? Have they undergone a criminal background check? After all they are going to be in your home when you are away.
Do they have qualifications or relevant experience? Are they just someone who likes animals or do they have an animal care qualification or veterinary nursing experience? Have they gone through the process of dog insurance quotes in case something goes wrong?
What experience do they have with the types of pets that you own? Do they know how to tell if an animal is off form or getting ill? With exotic pets such as snakes, rodents and parrots obvious signs of illness may not occur until the animal is very sick.
What services do they offer? Will they just visit once a day to feed and water your pets or will they play with the cats, walk the dogs and otherwise stimulate them? Would you prefer a pet sitter who actually lives in your home with your pets while you are away?
How well do they get on with your animals? See if they can visit your home before you go so that you can check how they handle and interact with your pets.
Do they have their own transportation? If there is an emergency and you pet needs to see the vet this can be very important.
